An injection mold maker in China is not a logo on Alibaba. It is a shop that can design, machine, fit, and debug steel without forwarding your CAD to an unnamed partner. Buyers who skip that check pay for it at T0: missing sliders, soft steel on a textured face, or a “maker” that is a sales desk in Shenzhen and a tool shop two provinces away.

In-house tooling is the difference between a revision in days and a revision in weeks. This checklist is what we expect a serious China mold maker to show — equipment, people, and a T-sample ritual — before you fund a production cavity.

Partners are not automatically bad — electrode specialists and texture houses are normal. The problem is a hollow maker who cannot change steel without a queue they do not control. Ask who signs the DFM and who cuts the slider.

Equipment and process you should see

  • CNC for cores/cavities; EDM for ribs, logos, and tight corners
  • Grinding and fitting capacity matched to the mold base size they quote
  • Standard components: DME/HASCO-style or named local equivalents you can spare
  • Hot runner brands they have actually assembled — not “we can use any”
  • CMM or projector for steel and first shots, not only a caliper at T0

T0–T1 ritual that separates makers from assemblers

Yes, if your tool fits their envelope and they actually cut steel. Large shops can bury a mid-size OEM behind automotive queues. Match size and attention, not headcount.
